TRISKELION now offers the quantification of bovine and porcine content in collagen hydrolysates using LC-MS to all interested parties.
Collagen hydrolysates, also known as collagen peptides, are widely consumed for their potential health benefits. For consumers with specific religious or lifestyle preferences, the animal source of these products is a crucial consideration, highlighting the need for reliable analytical techniques.
Previously, the TrustGel method was validated for quantifying animal species in gelatin. However, due to the relatively long sequences of its targets, this method is not suitable for analyzing extensively hydrolyzed collagen. Both theoretical and experimental approaches were used to identify bovine and porcine targets suitable for collagen hydrolysate analysis.
A set of 26 test samples, varying in average molecular weight, processing conditions, and animal species, was used for method development. After incorporation of stable isotope labeled internal standard equivalents, analytical experience was obtained by performing study sample analysis for more than 3 years.
A manuscript detailing the method development has recently been submitted for peer-review.
